Why Use Compare The Networks? (And Why We have Been Here Since 2008)

Last updated: March 2026

We started this business in 2008 because we saw a problem: UK businesses were getting ripped off on mobile contracts.

Not deliberately, in most cases. The networks were not trying to scam anyone. But they were selling their own products, to their own advantage, with their own targets to hit. And businesses, especially small ones without a dedicated IT person or procurement team, were ending up on plans that were wrong for them. Too much data here, not enough minutes there, paying for a handset they did not need, locked into a contract that was too long, with coverage that did not actually work where they needed it.

Back in the Nokia 3310 days, choosing a business mobile was simple. You picked a tariff with enough minutes and texts, and that was that. But by 2008, the iPhone had arrived, smartphones were taking over, data plans were confusing, and the number of options had exploded. There were hundreds of plans across multiple networks, each with different bundles, terms, restrictions, and small print.

Now, in 2026, it is even more complicated. Data bundles, roaming charges, leasing options, VoIP, broadband, eSIM, 5G, the PSTN switch-off, there is jargon designed to confuse you at every turn.

That is why we exist. We cut through all of it.

Who We Are

We are Compare The Networks, an independent, OFCOM-regulated comparison service for UK businesses.

Let us break that down, because every word matters.

Independent. We do not work for any network. We are not owned by EE, Vodafone, O2, or Three. We have no targets to push one network over another. When we recommend a deal, it is because it is the right deal for you, not because it earns us the biggest commission.

OFCOM-regulated. Not just anyone can call themselves a telecoms comparison service. We are regulated by OFCOM, the UK's communications regulator, the same body that regulates the networks themselves. That means we follow strict rules about how we present information, how we handle your data, and how we conduct our business. It is a level of accountability that most comparison websites cannot offer, because most of them are not regulated at all.

Comparison service. We compare. That is what we do. We take your requirements, how many lines, how much data, which areas you need coverage, whether you travel in Europe, what handsets you want, and we compare every relevant option across all four networks to find the best fit.

For UK businesses. We are not a consumer comparison site. We specialise in business mobile, business broadband, VoIP, and virtual landlines. Business needs are different from consumer needs, business contracts are different, and business support expectations are different. We understand all of that because it is all we have done for nearly 20 years.

Here are the numbers that matter:

  • Started 2008, nearly 20 years in business
  • 4.3/5 on Trustpilot from real UK businesses
  • OFCOM regulated, proper accountability, not just a logo
  • All four networks, EE, Vodafone, O2, and Three, compared side by side
  • Thousands of UK businesses helped across every industry and size
  • Free service, always has been, always will be

What Makes Us Different From Going Direct to a Network

This is the question we get asked most often: "Why would I not just call Vodafone directly?"

It is a fair question. Here is the honest answer.

We Work for You, Not the Network

When you call Vodafone, you are talking to someone whose job is to sell you a Vodafone plan. They are not going to tell you that O2 has better coverage in your area, or that EE has a cheaper deal for what you need, or that Three offers truly unlimited data where Vodafone's "unlimited" has a speed cap after 100GB. They cannot, they work for Vodafone.

When you call us, you are talking to someone whose job is to find you the right deal. Full stop. If that is Vodafone, great. If it is O2, fine. If it is EE, perfect. We do not care which network you end up on. We care that you end up on the right one.

We Compare All Four Networks Side by Side

The networks only sell their own products. That is like going to a Ford dealership and asking them which car is best, they are going to say Ford every time. We are the equivalent of an independent car broker who looks at Ford, BMW, Audi, and Mercedes, and tells you honestly which one is the best fit for what you need and what you can afford.

We have access to business pricing from all four networks, including deals that are not available on their websites. We know the actual coverage, not the marketing coverage maps, but the real-world experience in your specific area. And we know the quirks: which networks are strong in certain regions, which ones have better business support, which ones offer genuine flexibility on contracts.

Dedicated Business Account Managers at Every Network

Here is something most people do not realise: we have dedicated business account managers at every network. These are not the same people you would reach if you called the network's general business line and waited on hold for 20 minutes.

These are senior contacts who deal with business accounts all day, every day. They can access deals that front-line staff cannot offer. They can escalate issues faster. They can get things done that would take you weeks of phone calls and being passed between departments.

When you come through us, you get access to these contacts without having to build those relationships yourself. We have spent nearly 20 years building them, and you benefit from that on day one.

Our Service Is Free

This surprises people, but it is true. Our service is completely free to you. The networks pay us a commission for bringing them business, but, and this is important, you pay exactly the same price as you would going direct. Not a penny more.

Think about that for a moment. You get independent comparison across all four networks, expert advice tailored to your business, dedicated account management, ongoing support, and someone fighting your corner, and it costs you nothing. The alternative is spending hours on the phone with each network, trying to compare plans yourself, and potentially ending up on the wrong deal anyway.

We Handle Problems After the Sale

This is where we really earn our keep, and it is something the networks never mention when they are trying to get you to deal with them directly.

What happens when your bill is wrong? When your coverage drops? When you need to add a line urgently? When you want to change your plan mid-contract? When you are approaching your contract end date and the network tries to auto-renew you onto a more expensive deal?

If you went direct to the network, you call their customer service line, wait on hold, explain your situation to someone who is never spoken to you before, and hope they can help. If you came through us, you call us. We know your account, we know your deal, and we have direct contacts at the network who can sort things out quickly. We have already handled the situation a hundred times before.

We have dealt with billing disputes that saved businesses hundreds of pounds. We have caught auto-renewal traps before they kicked in. We have negotiated mid-contract changes that the standard customer service line would have said were impossible. This ongoing support is, for many of our customers, the most valuable thing we provide.

We Track Your Contract End Dates

This one is simple but incredibly valuable. We keep track of when your contracts end, and we contact you before the end date to review your options.

Without this, here is what happens: your 24-month contract ends, and the network automatically rolls you onto a monthly deal, often at a higher price, or renews for another 24 months at whatever rates they choose. You do not get the chance to compare, renegotiate, or switch. The network is banking on your inertia.

We do not let that happen. Before your contract ends, we get in touch, review what is available across all four networks, and make sure you are on the best deal going forward. It is a small thing that saves businesses a lot of money over time.

One Relationship Instead of Four

Many businesses have a messy telecoms setup. Mobile from one network, broadband from another provider, a VoIP system from someone else, and a virtual landline from yet another company. Four relationships, four bills, four customer service lines, four sets of log-in details.

We simplify that. Through us, you can get your business mobile, business broadband, VoIP phone system, and virtual landline all managed through one relationship. One point of contact. One person who understands your entire telecoms setup and can advise you holistically.

What We Actually Do: Step by Step

We know that "comparison service" can sound vague, so here is exactly what happens when you work with us.

Step 1: You Tell Us What You Need

You call us, fill in a form on our website, or send us an email. We ask some straightforward questions:

  • How many lines do you need?
  • How much data does your team use?
  • Where do you need coverage? (Office, field, nationwide?)
  • Do you travel in Europe or internationally?
  • Do you need handsets, or do you have phones already?
  • What are you paying now, and what is frustrating you about it?

If you do not know the answers to some of these, that is fine. We will help you figure it out. We have done this thousands of times, and we can usually estimate your data needs from a five-minute conversation about how your team uses their phones.

Step 2: We Compare All Four Networks

Using your requirements, we run a proper comparison across EE, Vodafone, O2, and Three. This is not just checking their websites, we access business pricing, check real coverage for your specific locations, factor in any current promotions or network-specific advantages, and apply nearly 20 years of experience in knowing which deals are genuinely good and which ones look good but have catches.

Step 3: We Present 2-3 Best Options

We do not overwhelm you with 47 options and a spreadsheet. We present two or three options that are genuinely best for your situation, with clear pricing and plain English explanations of what is included.

No jargon. No hidden fees. No small print surprises. If a plan has a limitation, a roaming charge, a speed cap, a fair use policy, we tell you upfront. You make your decision with full information, not with marketing fluff.

Step 4: You Choose, We Handle Everything

Once you have chosen, we do the paperwork. Contract setup, number porting (keeping your existing numbers), SIM delivery, handset ordering, everything. If you are switching networks, we manage the transition so there is no gap in service. If you are porting numbers, we coordinate the switch so your business number does not go dead for even an hour.

This is admin that most business owners do not have time for and do not want to deal with. We handle it because we do it every day and we know exactly how to make it smooth.

Step 5: Ongoing Support

Once you are set up, we do not disappear. We are here for the life of your contract and beyond.

Got a billing query? Call us. Need to add a line? Call us. Want to understand a charge on your bill? Call us. Thinking about changing your setup? Call us. Contract coming up for renewal? We will actually call you.

We are the people in your corner for everything telecoms. Not a call centre. Not a chatbot. Real people who know your account and know the industry.

What Our Customers Say

We are rated 4.3 out of 5 on Trustpilot, and we are proud of that score because it comes from real UK businesses, not incentivised reviews.

The themes that come up again and again in our reviews tell the story better than we can:

"I wish I had done this years ago." This is the most common thing we hear. Businesses that have been managing their own mobile contracts for years, overpaying without realising it, suddenly discover that a free comparison could have saved them money every single month.

"I cannot believe how much we were overpaying." It is not unusual for us to save a business 20-30% on their mobile costs without changing anything about their service. Often, businesses are on legacy plans that made sense when they signed up but have been overtaken by newer, better-value options. The networks do not call you to tell you there is a cheaper plan, we do.

"One phone call and everything was sorted." This is what we aim for. You should not have to become a telecoms expert to get the right deal for your business. One conversation with us, and we handle the rest. That is the entire value proposition in a sentence.

"They actually called me before my contract ended." The contract tracking thing genuinely surprises people. They are not used to a supplier proactively getting in touch to make sure they are still on the best deal. It is a small thing, but it builds the kind of trust that keeps businesses with us for 10, 15, even 18 years.

Our Products and Services

We started with business mobile comparison, but over nearly 20 years, we have expanded to cover everything a business needs for communications.

Business Mobile Deals

Our core offering. We compare business mobile deals across EE, Vodafone, O2, and Three, including plans that are not available online. Whether you need one phone or 200, we will find the right deal.

Business SIM-Only Deals

Already have phones your team is happy with? Business SIM-only deals give you the plan without the handset, at a significantly lower price. This is our most popular recommendation for businesses with phones that are still in good condition.

Leasing Business Mobiles

Need new handsets but do not want the upfront cost? Leasing business mobiles lets you spread the cost and claim tax benefits. The lease payments are a tax-deductible business expense, and you get new phones at the end of each lease term.

VoIP Phone Systems

Business VoIP replaces traditional desk phones with software-based calling over the internet. It is cheaper, more flexible, and works anywhere with an internet connection. With the PSTN switch-off approaching, VoIP is not optional anymore, it is inevitable.

Virtual Landlines

A virtual landline gives you a proper business phone number, local or national, that rings on your mobile. No hardware, no installation, no landline required. Perfect for businesses that want to look established without the cost of a traditional phone system.

Sky Business Broadband

We offer Sky Business Broadband SOGEA packages from just £35+VAT per month. SOGEA broadband does not require a phone line, which means you are not paying for a service you do not use. It is reliable, business-grade broadband at a competitive price.

Card Terminals

Because we are all about helping businesses communicate and trade, we also provide card terminals. If you need to take payments, we can sort that out too.

Who We Help

We work with businesses of every size and type. Here is who we help most:

Sole Traders and Freelancers

You are running everything yourself, and you do not have time to compare mobile deals across four networks. You probably need one or two lines, decent data, good coverage in your area, and a price that will not sting. We can sort that in one phone call. We will also set you up with a virtual landline so you have a proper business number without the cost of a phone system, it just rings on your mobile.

Small Businesses (2-20 People)

This is our heartland. Small businesses that need multiple lines, want to keep costs controlled, and do not have an IT department to handle telecoms. We help you equip your team, manage the contracts, and make sure nobody's overpaying. Whether you need a mix of smartphones and SIM-only for different roles, or you want to bundle mobile with VoIP and broadband for one simple relationship, we will design a setup that fits your business, not one that fits the network's sales targets.

Growing Companies (20-100 People)

As you grow, your telecoms needs get more complex. Different roles need different plans, your office team does not need as much data as your field team. You might need to add lines quickly as new hires start. You might be opening new locations where coverage from your current network is patchy. We scale with you and adjust your setup as your business evolves. We have helped companies grow from five lines to fifty, managing every step of that expansion so the telecoms never becomes a bottleneck.

Multi-Site Businesses

Different sites often have different coverage realities. What works in your London office might not work in your Manchester warehouse or your Bristol depot. We check coverage at every location and can even recommend different networks for different sites if that is what makes sense. We have worked with multi-site businesses that use EE for their southern sites and O2 for their northern ones, because that is what the coverage demanded. No single network would ever suggest that, but we will, because we work for you.

Field-Based and Mobile Workforces

Drivers, engineers, salespeople, tradespeople, if your team is on the road, reliable mobile connectivity is their lifeline. We prioritise coverage and data for field-based teams, making sure they are connected wherever the job takes them. For field teams, coverage is everything. There is no point having the cheapest deal in the country if your engineer cannot get a signal at the job site. We check the actual coverage, not the marketing maps, for the areas your team works in, and recommend accordingly.

Startups Getting Their First Business Phones

Starting a business is exciting and overwhelming. There are a thousand things to sort out, and telecoms probably is not at the top of your list. But getting it right from the start saves you from having to unpick bad decisions later. We have seen startups locked into 36-month contracts for 10 lines when they only had two employees, because a network sales rep told them they would "grow into it." We help startups set up with the right business mobile, broadband, and phone number from day one, without overcommitting on contracts or overspending on features they do not need yet. Start lean, and we will scale with you as you grow.

Our Promise to Every Business

Plain English, No Jargon

We explain everything in language you can actually understand. If you do not know what SOGEA, VoIP, eSIM, or the PSTN switch-off means, that is fine. By the time we have finished talking, you will, and you will not have needed a telecommunications degree to get there.

Honest Advice, Even When It Does Not Benefit Us

If you are already on the best deal for your business, we will tell you. If the answer is "stay where you are," that is what we will say. We would rather give you honest advice and have you come back in two years when your situation changes than push you into a switch you do not need.

This happens more often than you would think. Sometimes a business calls us expecting to save a fortune, and we have to tell them that their current deal is actually pretty good. It does not earn us anything that day, but it earns us trust, and that is worth more in the long run.

No Pressure, No Pushy Sales

We are not a boiler room. We do not do high-pressure sales tactics, artificial urgency, or "this deal expires in 24 hours" nonsense. We present the options, explain the differences, and let you decide. If you want to think about it, think about it. If you want to discuss it with your business partner, go ahead. We will still be here when you are ready.

Free Service, Always

Our service has been free since 2008 and it will stay free. We are paid by the networks for bringing them business, and you pay the same price as you would going direct. There is no catch, no hidden charges, no "free consultation then we charge for the detailed report." Free means free.

OFCOM Regulated, So You are Protected

Being OFCOM-regulated is not just a badge on our website. It means we are held to specific standards of conduct, transparency, and customer protection. If something goes wrong, you have recourse through the regulator. It is a level of protection you do not get from unregulated comparison sites, social media recommendations, or a mate who "knows someone at O2."
